Rice and Shine! : Grilllo at PasarBella, Suntec City #GrilloSG

Image
I got a confession to make. One that took me years to realize and to fully accept.  Okay, here goes... I can't live without RICE . Wow! That felt so good to put it out there. Well, I'm Asian and I grew up in the Philippines. Naturally, rice has been one of our staple in almost every meal (breakfast included). For years, I never reallly thought that I love it THAT much but living abroad, I would find myself choosing rice over noodles, rice over bread, rice over salad, rice over pasta... well that's still an ongoing debate. Anyway, you get the point. I pretty much can't live without rice. So, when I chanced upon Grilllo at PasarBella in Suntec City and got to try some of their dishes during their opening day, I knew that this is one stall that I'll go back and visit regularly. What's there not to love? Grilllo  specializes in Pan-Asian classic rice bowls with a bit of modern twist here and there. Let me show you some of the rice bowls that Paul and...

Snax! by CP Foods in Takashimaya Food Court

Image
During one of our SaturDates, Paul and I decided to check out the food court in Takashimaya Department Store in Orchard Road. While we have this impression that this is a very high end department store, I'm quite fascinated by the fact that it houses a lot of Japanese brands and we all know that there are just a lot of delicious Japanese food finds out there. While checking out all the different snacks, drinks and whatnot, we chanced upon this brightly colored stall selling yakitori-style food items. Meet Snax! by CP Foods .  We're no stranger to CP Foods and I even blogged about this cool $1 promo that they had a while back .While it was our first time to see their Takashimaya stall, I do recall seeing the one in JEM a few months ago and I really liked the fried shrimp popper that I was given as a sample by their friendly staff. I was planning to buy it but since we were rushing then, I just told myself to save it for our next visit.  Checking out the glass c...

Toki Q : First Ever Rotating BBQ in the Philippines

Image
Tonight, I left the office later the usual as I had to attend a work-related event. It's a Friday night and with no other plans for the evening, I invited Paul to join me for late dinner. There's a newly opened restaurant in the neighborhood called Toki Q and I've been excited to try it as I see it every day on my way to work. Finally, it's now open and ready to serve the public. Toki Q boasts of being the first restaurant in the Philippines using the Rotating BBQ griller. Contrary to traditional grillers, it takes one Yakitori stick 3-5 minutes to grill while others would take more than 10 minutes, give or take. This allows them to serve your order fresh and hot just the way a yakitori should be. I tried the Combo 2 with Miso soup and Drink (Php. 149). All orders except for the group platters come with Unlimited Rice. This is perfect for office workers looking for a good lunch option nearby. The rice was sticky and fragrant which I like. The Combo 2 comes wit...

Yakitori Kitchen at the Burgos Circle

Image
I love Japanese food! It's my ultimate comfort cuisine and luckily, there seems to be a surge of Japanese restaurants opening here and there . A week ago, The Food Club was invited to try Yakitori Kitchen , owned and managed by the same group as Ramen Bar . Upon receiving the invite, Paul and I immediately sent our confirmation. We were so excited that we were actually the first to arrive that evening. While waiting for the group to be complete, we were served with a bowl of Chicken Broth Soup which I find very refreshing. It actually reminds me of the yummy Emperor's Soup of Sugi. I loved it so much that I had two bowls of this for dinner that evening. I was able to meet the man behind Yakitori Kitchen and he explained that Yaki means Grill/Grilling while Tori means Chicken in Japanese. This was after I asked him how come they have mostly chicken parts listed in the menu. I didn't mind at all as I love chicken! For those who are not big fans of chicken th...
