#FrannyCooks Recipe: Tom Yum Prawn Pasta

Image
It has been a year since I've started using the hashtag #frannycooks on Instagram . I still remembered how I promised myself to cook more in 2015 and initially, I would prepare the safe dishes which are the ones that I can confidently prepare and are surely edible. Little by little, I've gained more confidence and creativity around the kitchen. I love surprising Paul with a newly created dish every now and then and I'm lucky that so far, he has liked them all. Recently, I had lunch with my colleague C and since I practice abstinence from meat every Friday in Lent, I had to choose among the seafood items in the menu. I zeroed in on the Tom Yum Seafood Pasta as I love anything with tom yum! I tell you, that was one of the best lunches that I've had this year and I just kept on raving about it after every bite. I loved it so much that I was so inspired to prepare my own version that same day. As you may have noticed, I do thing pretty fast. After quickly going throug...

Hot Cross Buns from Cedele Bakery Cafe

Image
I'm back from my short  Lenten hiatus and it surely was a good 3-day well spent organizing, getting artsy and creative as well as enjoying my life offline. How about you? I'm pretty sure a number of you are on your way back from an amazing vacation! Tell me about it below, okay? Anyway, do you remember the old nursery rhyme that goes like this: Hot cross buns!  Hot cross buns!  One a penny, Two a penny,  Hot cross buns! In some countries, it's a tradition to have a Hot Cross Bun during Good Friday . Well, it was my first time to see a real Hot Cross Bun  up close and the moment I saw it, I got every single flavor there is in Cedele Bakery Cafe . We then had this at home for breakfast last Good Friday and it was fun doing a little taste-testing on which flavor is the best.

Snack Time : Jollibee Tuna Pie and Kitkat Chunky

Image
We're back in Manila for a really quick visit and I was so thrilled to see a couple of surprises waiting for me at home. Here's a quick note of thanks to the kind folks who sent these yummy treats to me! Jollibee Tuna Pie It's lent and I practice abstinence. This means that I stay away from eating meat every Friday. I got to admit though that I've cheated once twice when we were in Singapore. It couldn't help it, the mouthwatering plate of Boneless Hainanese Chicken Rice was calling out my name. Kidding aside, I really tried but was faced with two circumstances that I just had to have that piece of juicy pork/chicken/beef sitting in front of me. Anyway, I hope I'll be able to stick to my sacrifice now that I'm back home at the moment. I was so happy to receive this pail filled with Jollibee Tuna Pie . Aside from the Jolly Hotdog and Burger Steak, this is one of my Jollibee favorites. I'm so happy there's a Jollibee branch in Singapore that...

Maundy Thursday : Lunch at the Chens

Image
It's Lent and the Philippines is now having a 5-day long break allowing us to reflect, repent and to remember what He has done for us. For me, I'm spending this 5 days to do all those and to relax, tp catch up with friends and to prepare for my upcoming trip as well. Today, I had lunch with a couple of good friends from high school. Since my good friends Angie and Dave are expecting their little bundle joy soon and Ge was advised by the doctor to just stay indoors; thus, we decided to have a simple potluck lunch at their lovely home instead of eating outside. I observe Lent as I stay away from meat until Easter. Luckily, all the dishes that we had today were meat-free allowing me to enjoy every single one! Let me share with you what me and my friends brought to lunch today: Even if she said she won't be cooking anything; Ge, who can double as Martha Stewart, couldn't help but prepare this yummy Spinach Dip with Crostinis. She also had a plate of Asparagu...
