Hai Chix & Steaks in Greenhills, San Juan

Image
If there's one thing that I dread experiencing whenever I'm back in Manila then that would have to be the crazy traffic jam! It must be the never-ending road works or the growing number of cars on the road but the traffic condition continues to worsen year after year. Take our recent trip for example. We were very lucky that our  Philippine Airlines  flight arrived earlier than scheduled giving us more time to quickly see our family and head to San Juan for dinner. We got to NAIA 2 at 6pm and believe it or not, we reached San Juan at 830pm. That's 2 and half hours on the road with Waze giving us various routes to help us get home as quickly as possible. Oh my goodness! Papa, Pan and E were at home waiting for us and after we quickly dropped off our luggages, we headed to the nearest restaurant for our late dinner. I suggested Hai Chix & Steaks  as it has been on my list for the past months. I wasn't sure if it was any good but I guess, we'll never know if ...

#FrannyCooks Recipe: Tom Yum Prawn Pasta

Image
It has been a year since I've started using the hashtag #frannycooks on Instagram . I still remembered how I promised myself to cook more in 2015 and initially, I would prepare the safe dishes which are the ones that I can confidently prepare and are surely edible. Little by little, I've gained more confidence and creativity around the kitchen. I love surprising Paul with a newly created dish every now and then and I'm lucky that so far, he has liked them all. Recently, I had lunch with my colleague C and since I practice abstinence from meat every Friday in Lent, I had to choose among the seafood items in the menu. I zeroed in on the Tom Yum Seafood Pasta as I love anything with tom yum! I tell you, that was one of the best lunches that I've had this year and I just kept on raving about it after every bite. I loved it so much that I was so inspired to prepare my own version that same day. As you may have noticed, I do thing pretty fast. After quickly going throug...

Buffalo Wings Test: Carol's Texan 5

Image
After reading Jane's Top 10 Buffalo Wings list , I suddenly found myself craving for a basket of mouth-watering crunchy chicken wings coated to perfection with sauce that's not too spicy nor not too sweet. It was one Sunday morning when we thought of inviting two of Paul's siblings to join us for lunch at Carol's Texan 5 which was conveniently located just a couple of minutes away from my in-law's place. It's a good thing they were game to go with us. The place was empty as opposed to its normal night scene with a busy bar nearby. The procedure was to order at the counter, pay the bill and wait for your food to be delivered to your table. My brother-in-law A chose the Texan Beef Cheese Steak (Php. 155) which he said was just a-ok. It looks like he was not fully satisfied as he helped himself to our orders. My sister-in-law M, on the other hand, chose the Tomato Basil Pasta with Shrimp (Php. 220). We were told that this was one of their best-sellers and...

Friday Night at Eat Well! Delicious Kitchen

Image
It was during our 3rd year in High School when Ne and I were assigned to sit beside each other. While I've known her since we were in Grade School as our younger sisters were classmates then, it was only in high school when we found ourselves on the same class. N's your typical quiet diligent student while I... well... I just love to talk and talk and talk. I guess our teachers back then thought that by putting me beside N would finally make me keep quiet and give more attention to the teacher... well, they were wrong! (haha!) While N still remained the diligent type, let's just say she found a chat buddy in me. During class we would pass notes once in a while or more like whenever we're really really bored and eventually became really good friends. It's amazing how we can talk for hours and hours despite the fact that we see each other every single day. Graduation came and we went to different universities. She turned out to be a budding licensed CPA while I made ...

[Cooking with Fran] Fusilli alla Genovese

Image
As a promise to my friend and fellow blogger Monique , I'm sharing with you my latest kitchen experiment inspired by my favorite pasta dish from Cibo . Mommy turned a year older and wiser last Friday and she specifically requested that pasta be served for dinner. Not wanting to go with the usual spaghetti bolognese with extra serving of cheese on top, I prepared a dish that only took me less than 15 minutes to prepare and won the approval of the family. BIG thanks to Paul and Marilou for helping me too. What you'll need: - Olive Oil - Fusilli noodles -- cook as instructed on the package - Baby Shrimp - Pesto sauce - Garlic - Onions - 1 pack All Purpose Cream - Parmesan Cheese - Freshly ground pepper A Yummy Dish in TEN Easy Steps! 1) Pour a small amount of olive oil in a hot pan 2) Add in the shrimps, cook quickly until they turn orange 3) Set the shrimps aside 4) Pour more oil on the same pan 5) Add in chopped garlic and onions 6) Pour in a generous amount of Pesto Sauce, mix ...
