Sunday Champagne Brunch at The Line in Shangri-la Singapore

Image
Question: What is much better that a weekend brunch?  Answer: One with free-flowing champagne and an abundant choices of food, of course!  One of the highlights of our relaxing staycation at the Garden Wing of Shangri-la Singapore was the Sunday Champagne Brunch at The Line . As you know, The Line is one of our favourite hotel buffet restaurants in the Lion City, so we couldn't resist not having brunch there before checking out. More so, we have been getting non-stop raves about the premium offerings that you can find in this buffet line-up so we knew that we just have to go for it. Let me walk you through the different selections that you can find in the buffet: First, you start with some fresh seafood . From three kinds of crabs (King Crab, Sri Lankan and Alaskan Snow Crab) to air-flown oysters to the most plump and juicy tiger prawns, be sure to fill your first place with all these! Paul went wild with his favourite tiger prawns with marinara sauce while I ...

Back at our Shangri-la : Staycation at the Garden Wing

Image
Ever since we moved to Singapore , we've been fortunate to have old and new friends who have tirelessly exerted so much effort to ensure that we feel right at home. From taking us to the must-eat places around the island to inviting us to house parties and all sorts of events, Paul and I have easily adapted to our new life here and we got all of them to thank for. In addition to that, I'm also lucky to have met the nice ladies of Shangri-la Singapore . After a short email introduction, Paul and I were invited to go for a weekend staycation at the Garden Wing of the hotel and this was definitely one that we were really looking forward to as relocating to a new country is definitely not an easy walk in the park. Thus, a staycation was definitely a good way for us to unwind and to enjoy each other's company. The following year, our friends from Shangri-la Singapore , once again surprised us with an amazing 3 days, 2 nights stay at the Valley Wing for our 4th Wedding An...

Say it with The Line Shop's Thought Cakes

Image
Remember this song? It's amazing how you  Can speak right to my heart.  Without saying a word You can light up the dark... ...You say it best, when you say nothing at all. When you're too shy to speak or the way to his/her heart is through her stomach, I have a tip for you -- say it with a cake (and make sure that's it's yummy too!). I'm not talking about any ordinary cake of course. Go with any of The Line Shop's Thought Cakes that comes in three mouth-watering flavors: Double Chocolate Crunch , Mid-Summer Berry Passion  or Vanilla-Vanilla . I was able to try the Mid-Summer Berry Passion and I love the soft sponge cake that envelopes the fruity jelly center. It was really delicious that I excitedly shared it with my colleagues N and R who happily enjoyed it for breakfast one morning. Customizing your cake is easy!

A paradise called Shangri-la : Dine and Play

Image
Here's the third and final installment for our amazing weekend staycation at Shangri-la Hotel, Singapore . Throughout our 3 days, 2 nights stay, Paul and I actually decided to just stay in the hotel and to make the most of the amenities and dining establishments found inside instead of joining the busy weekend shopping crowd of Orchard Road. Well, that's what staycation are for anyway. We really enjoyed every moment of it and for once, I even didn't bother checking my watch so I was totally clueless of the time. For those who needs to go to Orchard Road, the hotel actually has an hourly shuttle service that can take you to various drop-off points: Traders Hotel, Orchard MRT Station and Takashimaya Shopping Centre to name a few. This is available everyday including weekends. For the business travelers though who's coming to Singapore and will be having a couple of meetings in the CBD area for instance, Shangri-la also has a weekday morning shuttle that will take gue...

Hawker Heritage at The Line, Shangri-la Hotel Singapore

Image
When you mention Singapore to a traveling foodie, I can probably bet a million dollars that the word hawker  will surely come up. Not quite convinced? Okay then, think about your favourite Singaporean dish. Ready? Well, whatever it is, I can confidently say that you can get all  of them from a hawker center. You see, hawkers and hawker centers play a very important part in Singapore's heritage. I can still remember my first hawker meal was back in the late 90s, I was about 8 years old then and my parents brought me to Newton Circus for dinner. Back then, there weren't a lot of hawker centers, I can still remember visiting the ones in Newton as well as People's Park in Chinatown. Sanitation was still a big problem then as we would watch in horror whenever the "uncle" would just "wipe" our table with a piece of chopsticks, pushing all morsels of food down to the floor. The tables would be sticky, sometimes oily, the floor extremely dirty. I have a number...

Spicy Thai at The Line, Shangri-la Hotel Singapore

Image
For a few hours last night, it felt like Paul and I rode on a magical jet that transported us to Thailand for dinner and back to Singapore right after. In reality, we just had another visit back to Shangri-la Hotel Singapore to join a couple of online writers and bloggers for their media preview of the upcoming Spicy Thai Festival happening at The Line from May 17 (Friday) to 26 (Sunday) , 2013 . If you remember, a month ago, Paul and I were lucky enough to be given the chance to have a fun weekend staycation at the Shangri-la Hotel Singapore . During this time, we were also able to have a hearty Sunday brunch at The Line , the hotel's interactive international buffet restaurant. This time we're back to experience the new dishes that resident Thai Chef Ratree has in store for all The Line dinner customers from Friday onwards.   Let me share with you the dishes that we were able to try during our 6 course dinner last night:  Our dinner began with a ver...

A Yummy Sunday Morning in The Line at Shangri-la Hotel, Singapore

Image
I'm a big fan of breakfast. If given a chance, I'd love to have breakfast food all day long! Thus, I'm always excited to check out the breakfast buffets and offerings whenever we're on a vacation/staycation. This recent staycation, was no different. As much as our comfy bed made it feel so good to just sleep up until noon, we resistated the temptation just to be able to check The Line out. This is Shangri-la Hotel 's in-house all-day dining restaurant. It's the counterpart of our local Circles or Heat from Makati Shangri-la and EDSA Shangri-la Hotels respectively. Since it's Shangri-la , we expected just the best spread. We got to the restaurant at 9AM and it was already bustling with families, couples and big groups of guests having their breakfast. Luckily, getting a table for two is normally easy. Even before we settled into our table, we were told to check the buffet area out and to begin helping ourselves with the wide variety of dishes available....
