Barrio by Mex Out at 313 Somerset

Image
I don't know about you but there's something truly comforting about eating Mexican food. I just love having a bowl of fully loaded nachos, burritos and tacos and most especially adding guacamole anywhere possible. Do you agree with me? Mexican has been our go-to whenever we want something more laid back. Back in Manila, we'd even pair our Mexican feast with a glass of beer with lime but since alcohol is quite pricey here in the Lion City..then a glass of soda would do. Haha! Kidding aside, we're just so lucky to have discovered quite a number of good Mexican spots that never fails to satisfy our cravings whenever it happens. Recently, we got to try Barrio by Mex Out  at 313 Somerset . It has actually been there since middle of 2016 but since we rarely get to frequent Orchard Road during the weekend, it was when we agreed to meet up with cousin J for an impromptu dinner out that we decided to check the restaurant out. We started our meal with Loaded Nachos  (S$...

All Hail the Best Baked Mac in Town : Toll House in Angeles, Pampanga

Image
Allow me to let you in on a secret.  It's the kind of the secret that I've carefully kept mum about for the past 13 years. However, I feel it's the right time to make the big reveal. So, here goes.... I found the ONE. That glorious plate of Baked Macaroni and I can dare say that it's the best that I've tasted in my entire 33 years of existence. Too good that I'm allowing myself to be melodramatic about it.  Welcome to Toll House . A home-grown neighborhood coffee shop found along the busy street of Sto. Rosario  in Angeles, Pampanga. Paul first took me here during our early days of dating and if I remember correctly, it was exactly after he officially introduced me as his girlfriend to his gwama and gwakong  which led to a short chit-chat a.k.a. interview. Yes, we had a " Meet the Grandparents " kind of moment and I guess it went pretty well so we headed to Toll House to celebrate. Haha!

AC Rumpa in Angeles, Pampanga

Image
The Food Club went on another out of town trip and this time we all headed to Paul's hometown in Angeles, Pampanga ; where we stayed the night in Fontana Leisure Park . ( Read Rowena's blog entry about it here ) We got there around 11 in the morning and The Club decided to go Duty Free shopping first. After which, lunch was next on the itinerary and being the ones who frequent Pampanga a lot, I asked the group if they're game to have ribs for lunch. After all, I had my favorite restaurant in mind. I first encountered AC Rumpa a few years ago when Paul and I first watched the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta in Clark. As always, I went prepared ready with a list of restaurants to try after doing my research online and AC Rumpa got the most number of votes from our Hot Air Balloon group. AC Rumpa stands for Angeles City Retired US Military Personnel Association. I'm not really sure if the owner is an American or a Filipino but one thing I'm really sure of is that they ...

B&T Mexican Kitchen in Ortigas Avenue

Image
After our fun reunion dinner with Ei at B&T last month, we were back again a week again this time with The Club to sample more of what B&T has to offer. We were a huge group of 10 and despite being seated in a long table, Philip of B&T still managed to fill up our table with food, food and more food! Let me share with you a number of B&T dishes that I really enjoyed that evening: While waiting for the others to arrive, we had baskets of Chips and Chili con Carne (Php. 180) to munch on. I had this also during my first visit and I love the crunchy colorful nachos. It's lightly salted allowing the Chili con Carne dip to shine. I'm glad that it doesn't have a hint of spice making it very kid-friendly.

Taco Bell, Olé!

Often times, I crave for the most unexpected things. Take today for instant, I woke up craving for pork machang , which is a triangular-shaped dimsum that is made of brown glutinous rice mixed with pork, chicken and shiitake mushroom. I can't stop thinking about this on my way to work even imagining adding tomato ketchup on top of my machang. The craving stayed on all day that the moment I got to the car, I asked my mom if we can drop by the Little Store for some machang on our way home. A couple of weeks ago, I found myself craving for Mexican food . This brought about three consecutive visits to a mexican restaurant in my neighborhood and a quick fix at Taco Bell . Surveying their menu board, I noticed that they have a new addition to their already mouthwatering line-up. It's called the Cheesy Gordita Crunch (Php. 99) which looks like a taco but is wrapped in white tortilla bread. It got me wondering what it tastes like that I got that together with my favorite Nachos Supr...
