Wow 2019 is zooming by so so so fast, don't you agree? Look at this, we're half way in February and before we know it, we're halfway through the year and 2020 will start making its way through. Don't you wish that time would slow down a lil bit allowing us to breath, relax and have a bit more fun? As I was going through my blog archive, I realized that I haven't shared any recipes with you guys for the past 2 months. A lot of things have happened in 60 days that sometimes I feel like I just can't keep up! Anyway, let me have a good start to this exciting week by sharing one of my favorite easy-peasy recipes with you. This one can be done in less than 30 minutes and one that I love to do when I'm literally in a rush. That said, I apologize in advance for the awful photo qualities that you'll see below. No glamorized shots, no proper lighting, no stylized plating. I was seriously rushing to make dinner as I got stuck in traffic and came home with less th...

Traditional Bites : Old Seng Choong Pineapple Tarts

Image
The Chinese New Year season here in Singapore has always been extra special for Paul and I. Wanna know why? It was when we opened a new chapter in our lives as we moved to this beautiful country a couple of years ago. I can still remember flying in on the 1st day of CNY and we both noticed how unusually quiet the whole city was. Apparently, it's tradition here that shops close to allow people to go attend their family gatherings for two full days. Days after that, we had our first try of the lo hei and we got to try a couple of traditional snacks that's really new to us too -- pineapple tarts, countless types of nuts and chips, bak kwa and more! It's interesting to see how different a particular holiday is being celebrated in this part of the region. The Year of the Rooster is just around the corner and we're starting to have our fill of our favorite CNY snacks. Not to mention, we're both looking forward to doing numerous rounds of lo hei all throughout t...

Snack Time: Happiness in Cupcakes, Regent Soft Cookies and Mr. Pea and Porky!

Image
It's a common scenario to hear our family discussing what to have for our afternoon snack (merienda) while having lunch! I guess I took after my Kongkong who just loves to snack and who considers this part of his daily dietary requirement. He's an amazing cook so we always enjoy his homemade bihon soup or together, we will visit one of his favorite restaurants along Banawe to have a tall glass of really good halo-halo on a warm summer day. Let me share with you what we have on our snack stash that got us addicted on for days weeks: Happiness in Cupcakes (a.k.a. HIC) specializes in alcoholic-flavored cupcakes that makes a great dessert choice actually for adult parties. I got to admit I don't drink that often but I do appreciate a glass of mojito or a strawberry margarita to end a stressful day. They sell their cupcakes by the dozen (Php. 650) and requires a short lead time of 3 days. We were able to try the following flavors: Car Bombs, Red Hot Choco Peppers, Mojit...

Going "O, Wow!" with Oishi!

Image
Look what greeted me the moment I stepped into our house the morning that I arrived from Beijing, China ! It was a six-foot tall box that simply has the phrase "O, Wow!" in front. Our helpers were so excited as they have been wondering for days what was inside. As you open the tiny square hole, this apparently is the magical access to close to a hundred of Oishi assorted snacks! From my favorite Kirei to Pillows; to what most 80s kids love munching on, the Prawn Crackers, to the new Baked Potato Fries and a lot more! Everyone in the house excitedly sorted out the bags of chips as Paul and I packed them into tiny plastics to share with my in laws (especially the two kids) , my grandparents and of course to my ever reliable helpers, driver and our beloved Manang. This truly placed everyone in a happy mood as they all exclaimed "o(h), wow!" as they got their bags of Oishi goodies!
