Waking up my Neighborhood : Kanto Freestyle in Greenhills

Rise and Shine, Manila! I've been meaning to write this entry all throughout Holy Week but the farthest I've went was to edit and upload the photos. We've also been taking the twins out for quick trips to the supermarket, to my Kongkong's place, to the playground..anywhere just to spend more time with our little twin stars before Mommy and Daddy goes back to work. True enough, as soon as Monday rolled in, we've both been so busy catching up with all the backlogs and meeting endless deadlines. What do you know?! It's Friday already and I'm honestly not looking forward to the next two weeks as Yaya M will be gone for her holiday and it means we will be yaya-less for 10 whole days. Don't get me wrong. My twins are adorable and they're so much easier to manage now but when you have a full time job and a million things needed to be done, it's really hard to find time to juggle mommyhood, your career and everything else in between. So, if I suddenl...

Abé at the TriNoma Mall in Quezon City

Remember my story about this particular Filipino restaurant that my family would frequent on a weekly basis? Just as much as we love Chinese and Japanese food, my family is a huge fan of good traditional Filipino cuisine too. Since the disappearance of Harana more than a decade ago, it has been a while since we've been loyal to a specific Filipino restaurant simply because there hasn't been any that can match up to the taste and quality of service of our favorite Harana . While I truly appreciate modern Filipino cuisine where I like trying deconstructed traditional dishes such as the ones tried here , here and here , my parents and grandparents still prefer Filipino dishes cooked the same way as it was centuries ago. Then we tried Abé , a traditional Capampangan restaurant operated by the LJC Group . We first visited Abé years ago when they opened in Serendra Piazza . Together with my grandparents, we ordered a couple of their house specialties and enjoyed it very much...

A taste of history at Romulo's Cafe

Age-old saying would say that "Three's a Crowd." However, I would like to disagree as I am actually a part of not only one but a number of trios. Take for example, my favorite work colleagues K and B who, due to our common love for trying out new food spots , became two of my closest friends through time. Then, of course, there's S and D . Despite graduating from the same high school, our friendship began through blogging and continues to grow as we occasionally meet up to catch up on each other's lives. Lastly, my trio with C and E. Though we rarely get to see each other as often as we're all hoping we could (this actually is becoming a joke that we get to meet up only once a quarter) , every single dinner spent with them is still the same. Full of stories, laughter and genuine friendship. Last night, our dinner was set for us to try out Romulo's Cafe in Quezon City. Usually, it is just the three of us meeting up for dinner but this time, we ag...

The Secret is OUT! : Jollibee's Chicken Barbecue

Image
If I were to ask what would be the first word of a Filipino kid, some might say "Mama", while others would say "Dada". However, when it comes to food and character recognition, I guess we would all agree that every single Filipino kid can immediately recognize that happy orange bee otherwise known as Jollibee . In my 27 years of existence, I have never seen a kid who's face did not light up upon the mere mention of Chicken Joy or Spaghetti. How they would cling to every single word of Tito Aga (Muhlach) as he bites into that crispy-licious Chicken Joy on tv. I brace myself knowing that someday I will have to deal with and eventually might give in to the constant pleas of my future kids as they insist on having Jollibee for dinner and nothing else. Indeed, Jollibee has played a big role in our lives from the time that they launched the Regular Yum Burger to everyone's guilty indulgence, the Chicken Joy, and later on launching more and more delicious treats to...
