Joo Bar at Tan Quee Lan Street (Bugis)

"건배!" This means "cheers" in Korean and truth to be told, it's one of those words that I rarely get to say as I don't really go drinking very often. Perhaps "맛있는", which means "delicious", would definitely be one that I'd say on a daily basis. For some reason though, when I received an invite to visit Joo Bar  for dinner (and drinks), I was really excited to go check it out. First of all, I've never been to a Korean bar not unless you'd consider those in Myeongdong that serves Korean Fried Chicken and beer then yes, I love going to those! Secondly, together with the drinks I'm pretty sure the food will be interesting to try too. Thirdly, it's just in Bugis which is one of my favorite shopping and eating districts in Singapore. However, finding the restaurant can be quite a challenge. My tip is to take the road across Bugis Junction  and walk all the way towards  Marrison Hotel . Before reaching the corner, kee...

Stateland Cafe in Bali Lane, Singapore

Image
For those who have been following me on Instagram , you might have noticed that I would regularly use a certain hashtag called #frannymeday mostly on Saturdays. You see, Paul has work every Saturday which means I am all alone for most part of the day. Normally, I would just spend a couple of hours in the gym, grab a quick bite and run some errands while waiting for him to get off from work. I have to admit though that doing this for a couple of years now, it can get a bit lonely and the wait till his work ends can sometimes feel like forever. I'm lucky to have a couple of sweet girl friends here in Singapore who willingly offer to be my Saturday date to keep me company. Leading the #squad is my college friend T. She and her husband moved to the Lion City a few years before Paul and I did and we would go out for lunch dates once in a while since our offices are near each other. Lately, she has also been my favorite companion for weekend blog events or just whenever we feel the ...

All Aboard! : Genki Sushi in Bugis+

Image
Mommy and Pan came to visit me and Paul a month ago and I tell you, those were the best and most fun days that I've had here in the Lion City. I really love it when family comes to visit. As much as I also love being back home in Manila, it's nice to be able to share bits and pieces of my life here with the people I love the most. Of course, that includes taking them to some of my favorite restaurants, my favorite shopping malls and more. So, first on the agenda was to take them bargain shopping at Bugis . As we were shopping at Bugis+, we chanced upon Genki Sushi . This is a casual sushi restaurant with a really cute concept. We've known sushi restaurants to have the traditional conveyor belt where you can just pull out plates after plates of sushi. What makes Genki Sushi unique is that each other is prepared minutes after you place the order. Given that, you're assured of having fresh sushi all the time.

World Street Food Congress 2015 in Singapore

Image
Last week was definitely a gastronomic one here in sunny Singapore . Thanks to the 24 food stalls who opened shop for 5 glorious days as part of the World Street Food Congress 2015  in the Bugis district . After 2 years of attempting to check this event out, Paul and I finally made it! Of course, we will never miss this year's jamboree for anything as we're ready to show our all-out support to our dear friend and favorite Lechon Diva, Dedet of Pepita's Kitchen along with fellow Pinoys, Chef Claude Tayag of Bale Dutung and Top Chef winner Paul Qui of East Side King .  The event opened last Tuesday at 5PM and believe it or not, Pepita's Kitchen's Truffled Lechon Diva was all sold out an hour and a half after! My heart sank the moment I got to the event grounds and Dedet apologetically told me they're all sold out. Awww mannn! Lechon with Truffled Rice.

Explore Singapore : Where to shop and eat in the Bugis District

It's currently the Great Singapore Sale and I'm pretty sure a number of you are flying in or have already flown in to shop, shop and shop some more! I got to admit, regular price shopping is not cheap here in the Lion City so even we, residents, do welcome these mall-wide sales with glee! When it comes to shopping in Singapore, definitely Orchard Road would immediately come to mind. A whole stretch of malls located right beside each other housing a number of brands to suit our taste and needs. However, if you're here for bargain shopping, then head over to the Bugis district . Back in the 50s up until the early 80s, Bugis Street was known as Singapore's red-light district. This all changed when a major urban redevelopment project happened turning what used to be a street filled with bars and pubs into one lined with shops and bazaar stalls ready to cater to the shopping crowd. How to get there: With the addition of the newest MRT Downtown Line (Blue), you can no...
