Gyuu at Emporium Shokuhin in Marina Square

Image
One of the highlights of our visit to Emporium Shokuhin was our meaty, beefy dinner at Gyuu . As you know, Japanese cuisine is not limited to bowls after bowls of ramen, plates of sushi and sashimi or baskets of ebi tempura. Japan is also know for producing top quality beef that has got the world drooling for years. One distinct characteristic of Japanese beef is its amazing tenderness that people would love to describe as the kind that "melts in your mouth". So, when we were told that we will be dining at Gyuu  that evening and if we eat beef, I guess our resounding YES! has exposed our sheer excitement for the food to come. Gyuu specializes in grilled meats and what makes it more fun is that you grill your beef yourself. Okay, maybe if you really do not want to get down and smokey then the friendly kitchen staff can do it for you but I highly recommend for you to go for it as it will complete your dining experience after all. Our dinner began with a good selection of...

Over the MOOn at En Grill & Bar, River Valley

Image
When faced with a busy day at work where you ended up traveling from west to east to central for meetings all in one day, the best way to end is it with a good meal. Agree?  A couple of months ago, Paul and I were invited to sample the newly updated menu of En Grill & Bar in River Valley. We have been to their branch at Bukit Timah where we had a delicious Japanese a la carte buffet dinner with friends but that was more than two years ago. I think a long overdue return just made perfect sense. What we love about En's line-up is how they gave a modern take on the traditional Japanese cuisine. Be ready to entice your tastebuds with melt-in-your-mouth top quality Wagyu beef called the Motobu beef . In fact, En Grill & Bar imports this directly from the source all the way from Yanbaru ranch in Okinawa, Japan. I'm no expert in beef as I even abstained from it for a couple of years ago but I do know that the higher the grade level the yummier the beef is. That said...

The Fireplace at the Hyatt Hotel & Casino Manila

Image
Paul and I are fans of deal sites. I guess, it's quite obvious given the amount of restaurants that I've reviewed already after purchasing a discount coupon from Deal Grocer , my favorite deal site. We love it because we see it as a win-win solution. We both love to try new restaurants and when we get an offer that will allow us to dine for just a fraction of the regular price, we both agree that it's worth a shot. In case the food turns out to be bad, then at least we won't feel so bad for wasting our hard-earned money over it. If it turns out to be really good, then we go home feeling like champions. As such, it has been a habit for us to check Deal Grocer on a weekly basis. A few months ago, we spotted an offer that will finally allow us to try the much talked about steak of The Fireplace in Hyatt Hotel & Casino Manila . We've tried all of the other food establishments in the hotel except for this one. I guess, we were just waiting for the right time...

Eat-all-you-can-Grill at Tajimaya Yakiniku Restaurant in SM Mall of Asia

Image
Finally I was able to cross out another restaurant from my growing list of restaurants to try for the year!! We have barely 4 months to go before 2013 rolls in and I am barely half way there! *pant pant* So little time, so many restaurants to try! After visiting an expo at the SMX Convention Center , Paul and I agreed to have dinner at Tajimaya Yakiniku Restaurant . I've been hearing about this restaurant from my cousin in law L who loves this restaurant and has been raving about their yummy grilled beef since last year! In fact, I still owe her a Tajimaya pig-out date together with ML . We mentioned our dinner plans to The Food Club and our initial table reservation for two was magically turned into a private room for 8 as they wanted to try it out too! Well, as they say...the more, the merrier! They have an Eat-All-You-Can promo where for only Php. 420 you get unlimited refills of beef, chicken, sausage, fish balls and pork. Add Php. 60 and make it Php. 520 then yo...

Buon Giorno at the Rockwell Business Center in Ortigas

Image
My family has been a long time loyal patron of Buon Giorno Tagaytay . Every trip to Tagaytay would not be complete without two things: a meal at Josephine's and lunch at Buon Giorno . Yes, that's how loyal my family can get. For as long as we love the food and we find the price reasonable, expect us to be back regularly. After lunch at Buon Giorno my parents love to spend more time around the area as we enjoy the cool breeze and the beautiful sight of the Taal Volcano. Once in a while, my mom would crave for something Italian and to her dismay not a single Italian restaurant here in Manila could satisfy her craving as much as Buon Giorno could. Her request is simple: fresh ingredients, balanced flavor, top quality meat. Our favorite is the Smoked Salmon with Mango Dill Sauce and their Risotto. We were so happy when Buon Giorno opened their first branch in Metro Manila along Shaw Boulevard. Sadly though, the ambiance there just doesn't match with that of their Tagaytay br...

[Cooking with Paul] Wagyu Sirloin with Buttered Veggies

Image
This was how we spent the last day of our 3-day weekend. Thanks to our friends Nicoley and Henri of Sonny's Kitchen who sent over a pack of Wagyu Sirloin (Php. 2,500/kg), Paul and I decided to try it out for dinner tonight. Well, the initial plan was for me to do the cooking and for him to just assist but my dear fiance didn't want my hands to get all dirty (or as he claims) and so he took over the kitchen and just handed me his camera to take shots for my blogging purposes . I was truly amazed. Paul did EVERYTHING . From rubbing some herbs and spices into the meat, to the actual cooking, to preparing the buttered veggies, to creating the gravy and lastly, up until the final plating. Everyone loved the steak as we enjoyed the tenderness of the meat. It was so fragrant that I was actually clicking as fast as I could for us to start eating ASAP. I'm so glad that we can now get our regular supply of steaks anytime from Sonny's Kitchen who, by the way, also distribut...
