Cyma Greek Taverna at Shangri-la Plaza Mall

Image
It has been a while since I've last visited Cyma , it has been 3 whole years in fact. Still, the memory of the delicious Roka Salata, the salty Lamb Chops and the to-die-for Skolatina still remains clear and vivid in my mind. Remember, I mentioned that I had a heavy lunch prior to visiting Sweet Pea last week ? This was because I joined my colleagues for lunch at Cyma Greek Taverna located at the nearby Shangri-la Plaza Mall and boy, we had a feast! Our lunch started with an order of Saganaki otherwise known as Flaming Cheese . Normally, the entire crew will shout OPA! as this was being served to you but I guess everyone was busy attending to the customers that the dramatic entrance of the flaming cheese somehow disappeared. Still, we enjoyed the crunchy buttery garlic bread and the delicious melted cheese. My only request was an order of Roka Salata . I can't have enough of this mix of fresh arugula and lettuce with candied walnuts, sundried tomatoes and parmesan che...

Late Night Snacking at Balkan Express

Image
This is one reason why Paul and I love San Juan . As years go by, more and more interesting food spots would come out making it very accessible for us to grab a quick bite. Whether we're in the mood for Chinese, Mexican or some Taiwanese Milk Tea , we can easily satisfy our craving with just a short drive around the neighborhood. Recently, a new restaurant opened at the corner of J. Abad Santos and Mons streets. This time it specializes in Eastern European Home Cooking. At first glance, I had zero idea what dishes are from the eastern European side. My first guess is that it has a lot of sausages as Europe is known for this delicious deli meat. Finally, after finding ourselves in the mood for some late night snacks, we decided to visit Balkan Express to educate ourselves about this particular type of cuisine. I like the bright yellow interiors that showcases photos of some of their best-sellers. The system is for you to order and pay before heading to your table to wait f...

Friday Lunch Outs at Cafe Med

Image
One thing nice about working in Makati is being close to a wide array of food choices located at the two major malls in this city namely: Powerplant Mall and the Ayala Center. This gives more excitement when going out for lunch with colleagues. After two years worth of Friday lunch outs, it's innevitable that we have our set of favorites that we somehow manages to go back to every now and then. Happily sitting at the top of our list of favorite lunch out spots is Cafe Mediterranean at the Powerplant Mall. Our love affair with this cozy, dimly-lit, foreign looking restaurant began a year and a half ago when a colleague treated the entire lunch group out for his birthday. It was my first visit and to play it safe, I got the Kofta Kebab (Greek meatballs) with Buttered Rice. Surprise surprise! It was love at first bite. I love how flavorful the meatballs were and the buttered rice was just the perfect pair. The next visit followed shortly a week after that and we have been regular cus...
