Chin Mee Chin Confectionery in East Coast Road

Image
Happy #SG50! It was indeed a fun and relaxing long weekend that just passed and how I wish we can have more reasons to celebrate like this. So, on Singapore's National Day , all trains and buses gave free rides for the entire day and Paul and I took this opportunity to explore the other side of town -- the East. Our adventure started early in the morning where we took a 45 minute train ride all the way to Dakota MRT Station. This was followed by a quick bus ride to East Coast Road --  our first destination of the day. After attending Sunday mass, we checked out this famous old-school coffee shop which dates back to the 1920s! I first learned about Chin Mee Chin Confectionery when I saw a couple of random Instagram posts from fellow bloggers about it.

One Sweet Day at Plain Vanilla Bakery at Yong Siak Street

Nowadays, I do look forward to quiet weekends. Gone are the days wherein my schedule is packed with errands, meet-ups, eat outs and more. Since I've moved here, my life is pretty much on a steady pace. From what used to be like a fast car zooming at 250kph, my weekends now feel like a smooth ride down an easy breezy road. Somehow, I like it that way. On one of those lazy Saturdays, I set a brunch meet-up with my good friend A who's back in Singapore for the F1 race. It's really cool that A and I still get to keep in touch even more now that we're both miles away from home. Thanks to the power of social media, we somehow get to be updated with each other's lives or at least our whereabouts from time to time. Also, I really enjoy going out for brunch with A and her beloved J. They're such fun couple who's game to try new places and since I was dead set in avoiding the CBD and touristy areas that weekend since I'm pretty sure traffic will be awful, I sug...

Twelve Cupcakes: Handmade with Love ♥

Image
Hi! I'm Frannywanny and I've been bitten (real hard) by a cupcake bug. It all began a few months back when our sweet and really thoughtful flatmate I came knocking on our door. As we opened it, there she was with a big smile on her face and a bright pink box on her hand. "Gusto nyo?" (you want?) was all she said. That was our cue to nod and reach out our hands to check what was inside the bright pink box. Twelve Cupcakes , it says. I got to admit, I'm not a big cupcake fan as I normally would scrape off the icing from the cupcake before taking a bite. Friends would tell me, I'm better off with a muffin and so I never really grew fond of cupcakes as in my mind.. I truly am better off with a muffin. I tried the Red Velvet cupcake as among all the cupcakes, its one that I know makes use of cream cheese frosting. Pretty safe for someone who can't take any heavy cream. Before taking a bite, I told Paul and we should share first to avoid wastage. How...

Snack Time: Happiness in Cupcakes, Regent Soft Cookies and Mr. Pea and Porky!

Image
It's a common scenario to hear our family discussing what to have for our afternoon snack (merienda) while having lunch! I guess I took after my Kongkong who just loves to snack and who considers this part of his daily dietary requirement. He's an amazing cook so we always enjoy his homemade bihon soup or together, we will visit one of his favorite restaurants along Banawe to have a tall glass of really good halo-halo on a warm summer day. Let me share with you what we have on our snack stash that got us addicted on for days weeks: Happiness in Cupcakes (a.k.a. HIC) specializes in alcoholic-flavored cupcakes that makes a great dessert choice actually for adult parties. I got to admit I don't drink that often but I do appreciate a glass of mojito or a strawberry margarita to end a stressful day. They sell their cupcakes by the dozen (Php. 650) and requires a short lead time of 3 days. We were able to try the following flavors: Car Bombs, Red Hot Choco Peppers, Mojit...

Pastry Princess at the Greenhills Town Center

Image
"What are little girls made of? Sugar and spice And everything nice..." - What are Little Boys Made Of , a nursery rhyme After our filling dinner at Sumo Sam , Paul and I decided to walk around the Greenhills Town Center to check the other establishments out. As we reached the back portion where Ha Yuan , a kebab place and an Asian mart are located, we also found Pastry Princess . I couldn't help but enter this cozy looking cafe that has a pretty baby pink interior. Oh how I drooled as I look at the glass case filled with all sorts of yummy looking cupcakes! Suddenly, I wanted to have a cupcake for dessert! (Who said I was full from our Sumo Sam dinner? Not quite!) The store is small but with free WiFi , this makes a great place to work or to hang out while enjoying a cupcake or two! In fact, we saw a mother-son tandem enjoying their chosen cupcakes that evening. The son was happily playing while the mom was busy with her laptop. They also serve coffee, tea a...

Dreaming of Cocktails in my Cupcakes

Image
I'm in love with cupcakes . I always find it more fun to munch on these tiny sweet treats as opposed to indulging in a huge slice of cake which my mom will never approve of. ( "too much sweets! loaded with calories!" , she would always say) Back when I was still in school, my dad would always buy a bag of cheese or chocolate cupcakes as our afternoon snack. I would take one tiny bite at a time to savor the moist, soft filling complimented by the sweet, decadent icing. Growing up, I was exposed to more cupcakes varieties such as the ones popularized by the girls of Sex and the City. Cupcakes topped with colorful flavored icings and sprinkled with shiny edible beads. I would call these fashion cupcakes. Sadly, most of these fashion cupcakes are just nice to look at but terribly fails taste. Some are too crumbly while some are as hard as a rock. The last thing I want when biting into my cupcake is a tall glass of water to help push the dry cupcake down. Ugh. Thanks to a frie...
