Nando's Peri-Peri Chicken in KLCC, Malaysia

Image
A month ago, Paul and I flew to Kuala Lumpur for a quick weekend getaway to celebrate his birthday with his cousins. Luckily, Kuala Lumpur (KL) is a fast 55 minute flight away from Singapore making it such an ideal place to go to when we just need a vacation but barely have any work leave credits to use up. We flew out after work on a Friday and was back on Sunday night. Being a city girl, there are only two things that I love to do in Kuala Lumpur -- to shop and to eat . Of course, there's gawking at the beautiful Petronas Towers in the process too. I'm not really fond of hiking up any mountain, nor coming face to face with monkey or birds so as I was planning for our weekend trip, I've basically scrap all those out from the list. It worked out well for us though as we just wanted to have a relaxing weekend anyway. So, on our last day in KL, cousin B requested if we can have lunch at Nando's . She loves the Chicken Liver very much and after hearing her raves ab...

Flavors of Asia at the Marriott Cafe

Image
To celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary , Paul and I had a dinner date at the Marriott Cafe . I guess it must have been fate and perfect timing that the Marriott Cafe is currently having their Flavors of Asia promotions wherein a couple of Asian favorites will be featured every dinner for the entire month of July . As such, it was a perfect chance for us to relive our fun two-weeks honeymoon spent in Singapore and Malaysia , two years ago. We did nothing but to eat, eat and eat. Luckily, our honeymoon coincided with Singapore's annual Food Festival allowing us to sample and enjoy never-tried-before local fares at affordable prices. Marriott Cafe has prepared a really good spread! I began with some Vietnamese rice rolls that were carefully handmade by the happy looking Chef Phan Tien Hoa of Renaissance Riverside Saigon. Normally, I would have my rice rolls with hoisin sauce or peanut sauce but I was pleasantly surprised by this pesto-tasting green peanut sauce that was...

Shiok in Greenhills Promenade, San Juan

I can't believe it has been almost a year since Paul and I flew to Singapore then to Malaysia for our 2-week long Honeymoon. I remembered being welcomed by our friend HK who took us on a fun food trip around the Tekka Market where I had the best tasting Lamb Briyani and later we dined at a Nonya Restaurant where it was my first time to try this type of cuisine. I knew from that point on that our honeymoon will truly be a gastronomical trip. As we get closer to celebrating our first wedding anniversary, Paul and I were invited to a food tasting at Shiok where we relived the fun eating moments that we both had during our Honeymoon. We met Chefs Nicco and Denny who are both owners of the restaurant. They first opened a branch at the Fort Bonifacio and lucky for us Greenhills loyal visitors, they now have their second branch at the food court of Greenhills Promenade . Initially, I thought Shiok means "cheap" as directly translated in Hokkien. It was only after meetin...

Fiery Hot at Madame Kwan's

Image
Upon landing at Kuala Lumpur and heading straight to our hotel to check in, Paul and I decided to grab an early lunch at the Pavillion Mall which was located right beside Novotel KL . Following the map, we made our way down to the basement where there was a huge Food Republic and a row of interesting looking restaurants. One immediately caught my eye -- Madame Kwan's . I remember this being recommended by a reader here and I told Paul we have to try this. I love the cozy green and white interiors and the service was great too. We were immediately led to our table and soon we were busy scanning the menu. Since first tasting the Nasi Lemak served at the Swissotel's breakfast buffet spread and I've been hooked ever since! I love the aroma of the coconut rice mixed with salty peanuts and anchovies! Since this is a Malaysian dish, of course it is a must to try Nasi Lemak right in Kuala Lumpur and this was one of the dish that we got here at Madame Kwan's. Knowing ...

A series of First Bites in Singapore

Image
How our honeymoon trip began was pretty unusual... as early as the night before, rain continues to pour endlessly and the night wind was so strong we can actually here the roof banging. We were uncertain whether or not our flight will push thru. We were scheduled to fly out of Manila at exactly 645AM. Following the standard airport rule, we had to be at the airport at least 3 hours before our flight. At 3AM, Paul and I woke up and found out that there was no electricity. The wind was still very strong and the rain somehow made me feel a bit anxious about flying. After a series of calls made to Cebu Pacific, we were told that there was still no advice if our flight will push thru or not, nonetheless, we have to be at the airport in 45 minutes. We prayed and quickly did some last minute packing with just our cellphone's flashlight shining our way around the room and within 15 minutes we were finally on our way to the airport. I continued to pray that the weather will improve allowi...
