Nakhon Kitchen in Pasir Panjang

Image
I just love the feeling of satisfaction that I would get whenever we get to discovery a delicious hole-in-the-wall restaurant. The criteria is that is has to be reasonably priced and the food quality is superb. More often than not, cheap food does not really go hand in hand with good taste so this can be quite challenging. So when we get to find one, we know that it's a keeper. Take for example Nakhon Kitchen  located along Pasir Panjang. Our friend B has been telling us about it and we even attempted to try it out for dinner a few months back only to find out that they're close every Wednesdays and we went exactly on ... yes, a Wednesday. So, on my second attempt, I made sure of the following: 1) it wasn't a Wednesday and 2) I gave the restaurant a call to double check. This time, we were successful!  Thai food is one cuisine that both Paul and I love! Except for Pandan Chicken, which Paul somehow dislikes, we would try to be adventurous and would experiment in t...

Cheap Eats : Eat Fresh Hong Kong Famous Street Food

Image
We all know that Hong Kong is the place to be when you want to go on an ultimate food trip . I always tell people that it doesn't matter where you end up eating as more often than not, you'll always have a good meal . From the corner kiosk selling all sorts of street food to the posh French-inspired cafes, three meals is definitely not enough when you're in Hong Kong . The best way to go is to take smaller meals as you eat your way around. While we sadly do not have the luxury of time and budget to hop on the plane to visit Hong Kong more regularly, I'm glad that there are a number of nice Cantonese restaurants locally where we can have a good dimsum or wonton noodle lunch whenever the craving hits. Recently, a new restaurant opened in the neighborhood. The set-up appears to be more like a carinderia where cooking is done facing the street and a small dining area can be found behind it. We never have encountered Eat Fresh Hong Kong Famous Street Food before but w...

Felicity Patisserie in Quezon City

Image
Through the years as Paul and I have visited thousands of restaurants here and abroad, we have opened our eyes to the different themes and styles imaginable. Normally, restaurants would just have the fun, casual vibe that matches their food. It's either that or a more refined, formal setting for fine dining restaurants. Aside from coffee shops that continue to grow in every corner of the metro, I secretly wish that there would be a little restaurant that would be inviting enough for you to stay and daydream the afternoon away. I'm talking about a restaurant with pretty interiors matched with classy trinkets decorated here and there. Perhaps they can throw in a nice reading nook where I can keep myself engrossed in my favorite chic lit novel while enjoying a piping hot plate of pasta. This is probably the kind of restaurant I'd have someday...the kind that girls like me can stay for hours on end as they catch up with their friends or spend that much-needed me-time. It s...

Budget Eats : Binalot

Image
Early this year, when I was creating my list of restaurants that I would like to try for 2011, Paul gave me a great idea -- why don't I challenge myself in finding budget-friendly places that will be able to give me a complete meal for P180 or less ? I guess he noticed that majority of our savings really do go to food and it's really time to spend wisely. I was definitely up for the challenge. Thus, I officially launch a new series here at Frannywanny.com called Budget Eats ! Today, I start with Binalot, a popular food chain that I've been forever curious to try. For the past years, I've been seeing a lot of my colleagues having their lunch wrapped in banana leaf -- it's our Pinoy-version rice toppings with a generous serving of rice and their choice of meat served with salted egg and tomatoes. Binalot has been known for their rice meals and how successful they have been with their menu line-up can be seen with the numerous branches that have been growing li...
