Discovering Coco's Tiny Kitchen

How are you, my dear readers? If there's one thing I love about being a Filipino is how we can be very resilient. No matter what the circumstance may be, wherever the wind takes us, we are probably one of the most flexible individuals in the region, to quickly adapt to changes and to seek the positivity in all things. It's no wonder that the Philippines was once voted as one of the happiest place on earth . Take the current situation that the entire world is facing, we were once put on Enhanced Community Quarantine which has led to business closures except for those offering essential goods like supermarkets and drugstores. With just a handful of restaurants offering take out services and public transportation not available, quickly people took to social media and messaging platforms to offer their products. Suddenly, there was a barrage of marketplaces being set-up in almost all communities imaginable. For years, you've never bothered to know your next door neighbor...

#FrannyCooks : Sausage and Mushroom Rice with Tiger Tacook Rice Cooker

Just tonight, I came across a funny joke. It goes like this: Me: I'm good at multi-tasking God: Here, have twins. I must admit that I have said this line way too many times during job interviews from the time that I've graduated from my university up until my days in the Lion City. Funny thing is, I don't recall telling this to my current boss when she interviewed me last year. Can't really remember why I didn't but well, my plate has been overloaded from the day my twins came into this world and I think that will remain that way up until they probably graduate from college or when I retire..whichever comes first. Thankfully though, being a multi-tasker is normal in today's world. Gone are the days when we have the luxury to do one task at a time. In order to get things done while keeping your sanity intact, you just gotta hustle all day, every day.  I got to thank technology for making our lives easier. Not wanting to sound like a tech-crazy mille...

Fat Fook Kitchen in SM Megamall

Image
Oh boy, time flies so so so fast! Has it really been 7 long years since my visit to Taipei, Taiwan ? Still, memories of visiting their delicious night markets and indulging in the yummiest street food is still very clear in my memory. I particularly love the Oyster Cake (orh-tsien) as well as this Baked Stuffed Potato that got me so addicted for all 3 days that we were there. Our visit to Taipei was super short and I can't wait to go back! I'm sure my twins will love munching around town with us too. Someday.. someday. Since, my twins are still in the process of enjoying their first taste of solid food, Paul and I can relive our gastronomic Taiwan trip right here in Manila! Finally, I was able to visit Fat Fook Kitchen , which opened a new branch at SM Megamall. I've been wanting to try this out since they opened at SM North EDSA last year but the proximity and my delicate pregnancy just made it really challenging. So, imagine my excitement as I stepped into their SM ...

Feng Wei Wee at Wilson street, San Juan

Image
In anticipation of our upcoming trip, Paul and I decided to have lunch at Feng Wei Wee which is our neighborhood's Taiwanese food stop. We've dined here before back when they used to have a different type of interiors and manner of service . A year ago, you enter Feng Wei Wee and see a serving area where you basically have to point out the things you like and the server will gladly serve this to you. Thus, in Tagalog, it's called Turo-turo . Today, Paul and I were surprised that there was no service area showing the dishes and they have a more cozy-looking interior design with a couch on one side and better looking seats around. It's just like any other restaurant where the server hands you the menu and you choose from there.

A Taste of Taiwan in San Juan

Image
I've mentioned time and time again that I feel that San Juan is slowly becoming the next Chinatown . To prove this point, I even went as far as writing an article highlighting a couple of the Chinese eateries and food stops in this city. Right after the article was published, Paul and I chanced upon a not-so-new restaurant along Wilson street. I pass through this road every single day and my curiosity increases every time I see a number of cars parked right outside this eatery. Feng Wei Wee , is a casual dining restaurant that serves Taiwanese dishes, lutong bahay style. The interiors of the restaurant has very minimal designs, you'll see a cafeteria-like set-up where you can choose the ones that you'd like to order or you can just head directly to the table and wait for the server to bring over a menu. Note that while there are a lot of Chinese restaurants in the metro, majority of which serves either Cantonese (dimsum, roast meat, etc) or Fookien (think Mann Hann) st...
