Yabu: The House of Katsu

Image
My sister just got back from her business trip in Japan and she brought home a luggage full of yummy goodies! From delicious rice crackers to a bag of Takoyaki mix and a lot more! She really went wild shopping for food that it was only when she was unloading her pasalubongs that she realized that all her food purchases were enough to fill up our dining table! Nothing surprising though as this is a common sight whenever a family member comes home from a trip. It is no wonder why my sister and I get along so well. While recounting her week-long stay in the land of Tempura and Sushi, she showed us photos of her having this amazing dinner where she had Tonkatsu and was enjoying the experience so much. I was actually surprised as my sister is not the type who would order Tonkatsu or even Katsudon here in Manila. She's a big fan of Unagi (eel) and Ebi Tempura (shrimp) and not much of the breaded pork cutlets that I, on the other hand, truly love. I guess having the authentic kind he...

What are you craving for lately?

Image
In life, we crave for so many things. From sushi to a steaming plate of pasta , to a bowl of chips and a lot more! While Paul and I are seriously trying to get in shape for our fast approaching Big Day , I have been skipping the carbs for as long as I could and would only treat myself to a single serving once a week. A couple of weeks ago, I had a dinner date with my sister at Super Bowl of China . Since it was my cheat day , we ordered their best-selling Super Bowl Fried Rice (Php. 295) to share. I love the Super Bowl Fried Rice because it's actually a meal in itself. With three types of meat toppings (pork asado, soy chicken and shrimp fritters). I also would request for extra peanuts as I love the crunch in every flavorful bite. One order is actually good for a group of four and it goes well with a basket of Steamed Garlic Fish Fillet or some Roasted Meat! This is what I'm craving for as of the moment, how about you? What are you craving for lately? Super Bowl of China ha...

Exercise your Freedom of Choice at Tutti Frutti

Image
Just as we thought we've seen them all..now comes a new player in the Yogurt world . Coming all the way from California, USA; Tutti Frutti has finally arrived in Manila! Unlike its friendly competitors, Tutti Frutti will help you exercise your freedom to choose as you go through the entire self-service procedure with the help of their friendly staff. Here's a simple guide on how to enjoy your visit to Tutti Frutti : First, choose the size of your cup . If I'm not mistaken there are four different sizes. I like the huge tub at the far right, this is perfect for a group of four. Second, choose your yogurt flavor . After trying at least six different flavors ranging from chocolate to taro and even fruit strawberry, I ended up getting the Original Tart which is your basic yogurt flavor. Third, take a pick from the wide variety of toppings . I originally wanted to get blueberries and crushed graham but the blueberries looked different that I just ended up creating my own mix...

From Cebu to Manila.... With love (for ribs)

Image
I can still remember my trip early last year to Cebu . It was the farthest place that I've ever traveled to for work. For one thing, to get there requires riding a plane. Upon arrival at sunny Cebu, we were warmly greeted by our fellow partners who excitedly toured us around. While walking around Ayala Center Cebu, one of the city's major shopping malls, I asked a partner what are the must-eat places around the area and without even batting her eyelashes, she said, " You have to try the ribs at Bigby's ". Unfortunately, our time in Cebu was pretty limited and most of our meals were taken inside the resort, thus I said goodbye to Cebu without having a taste of Bigby's famous ribs. Needless to say, I was disappointed and vowed to return to Cebu soon. SM Megamall's Atrium is starting to be one of the places that we frequently visit during the weekends. It's very exciting to see a new restaurant opening one right after the other in a matter of days. Unlik...

On being Deliciously Clean

Image
While strolling around SM Megamall's newest section , I chanced upon a store that caught my attention and perked up my curiosity. At first glance, it looked like a bakery with a glass-enclosed area with an oven, a counter with yummy looking donuts and pastries and wooden shelves with bread-like products. Taking a closer look, I noticed that the donuts look too glossy, the bread-like products too colorful and why on earth is there a pretty sink at the corner of the store? Then I realized that these attractive looking pastries are not for our sweet tooth's consumption but are meant to be enjoyed in a bubbly bath. While the Soap Factory staff can customize soaps to suit your taste, they also have four types of soap categories to fulfill your bubbly needs: - Yummy Soaps look so much like its baked counterparts that I personally had a hard time choosing if I want to bring home a cupcake, doughnut, a slice of cake or a piece of fruit. Eventually, I chose a Piña Colada after lovin...

Korean lunch break at KAYA

Image
Since I had to leave the office to do a couple of (supposedly) quick errands over lunch, I knew I would have barely an hour left to eat. After visiting the bank and buying a couple of things needed at home, I walked around SM Megamall in search of a good place that can serve my order in less than 30 minutes. Should I go for Japanese? Thai? American Fastfood? Or perhaps Italian? I was becoming more confused and undecided as I pass through a row of food outlets at the Ground Floor of Bldg A. Suddenly, I heard a greeting.... Ann-young Haseyo!! Welcome to Kaya ! My attention shifted to the jolly looking man holding out a big menu towards my direction. I slowly walked over to him and scanned the menu. Now, I'm suddenly craving for Korean. He led me to a nice table by the door and handed my the menu. He asked for my choice of drink and excused himself for a while to give me time to decide on my order. Hmm...I need something quick and yummy. Good thing, Kaya now offers 5 lunch bowls at ...

Getting bubbly with Bubble Tea!

Image
Being a 90s/early 2000 kid, I have been a witness to a dozen food fads that have came and went just as fast as a speeding race car. There's the mini donuts that even if it's swimming in oil, it tastes so good and so addicting that we can hardly resist buying a bag whenever we're out shopping in Glorietta. There's also Ice Monster that was the cause of my tonsilitis after I've had a month-long craving of Strawberry Ice alternating with Corn Ice. Lastly, who can ever forget Zagu that offered Fruity flavored shakes with that sweet, yummy black sago that at some point were said to be hazardous to our health? Snacking has always been a fun activity with these choices around. Thanks to the growing consciousness of healthy eating, restaurants and food companies have began to take notice in making sure that they offer dishes and drinks that are not only delicioso but are also, in fact, good for you. My sister and I grew up in a family who appreciates tea as much as the wo...

A very disappointing return at Italianni's

Image
Barely two weeks ago, I, together with a handful of bloggers were invited to Italianni's to learn about their newest campaign called Extra Surprises. I was so excited and impressed by it that I immediately wrote about to it spread the good news to everyone . Today, I went out with my grandparents and have decided to treat them to dinner using the gift certificates that I have received from the event. My grandpa loves Italianni's and I figured out that it would be a perfect post-birthday treat for him. We ordered the Seafood Risotto , Chicken Marsala and the Pork Chop Au Poivre . I was so excited to see the look on their faces when our extra dish would be served. Knowing that we ordered three main course dishes, I was kinda hoping that we'd either be treated to an extra appetizer or perhaps a cold salad or probably a sweet dessert to end our meal. I have also tipped our friendly server that it's my Grandpa's birthday knowing that they normally prepare something spec...
